Fast forward a long decade. Minus the machinations of a major label, Shocked's releases were beyond the grasp of most folks -- unless they caught one of her gigs, where she sold her gospel album, Kind Hearted Woman (1994, 1996) and Artists Make Lousy Slaves (1996).
Now she's re-releasing her past titles on her own label, Mighty Sound, where she holds the title "big boss with the hot sauce." Short Sharp Shocked came out last September, re-mastered and packaged with a 21-track bonus CD. Captain Swing was re-released in March.
With another Bush in the White House and the dust from Gulf War II still hanging in the air, Shocked is still as politically active as ever, though the rants might be more reasoned than before.
And what of the post-80s peaceniks that lost touch with Shocked after the first Bush lost office? We're happy to pipe her through the iPod and recollect.
