Aiming for a bull's-eye

The Chinese Taipei Darts Associationis planning to build a nationalteam that will one day compete on theinternational darts circuit

The association held its first officially sanctioned Taipei darts competition last month, and while the turnout was still meager, participation was larger then Kuo initially anticipated. The two-day 2004 Taipei International Darts Carnival (2004台北國際飛鏢嘉年華) attracted over 200 contestants and, according to Kuo, has paved the way for more competitions, both at the city and national levels in the near future.

"We didn't expect to see a massive turnout, but with 200 people coming to play on both days of the competition I'd have to say it was a success," he said. Plans have already been drawn up for a competition in Kaohsiung in September and a first national competition will be held in December.

The December competition, the 2004 National Dart Tournament (2004全國軟式飛鏢錦標賽), which will take place as long as Kuo and the association secure enough funding, will see some of the top players battling for a place in the Chinese Taipei Darts Association's first national team that will hopefully be able to debut at the Twentieth Bullshooter, next May in Chicago.
