Stars and masters appear together for some cult classic film action

Fans of black and white cinema have the opportunity to view US classics on the big screen from now until the end of February as part of the Stars and Masters Forum at the Chinese Taipei Film Archive (國家電影資料館).

Organized in part by the American Institute in Taiwan, the forum includes a 13-part documentary looking at the history of American film.

Architects of American cinema, including Gregory Peck, Katharine Hepburn and several others will be showcased in the documentary series, which compiles clips from more than 300 American films, with commentary from contemporary US filmmakers.

To promote awareness and appreciation of US film in Taiwan, the Film Archive is also screening a list of cult classics, including Roman Holiday, Triumph of the Will and A Street Car Named Desire, among others.

Aiming to assist in the development of Taiwan's film industry, the Archive -- in cooperation with local foreign representative offices -- organizes international film exhibitions in Taipei as well as promoting Taiwan films abroad.

Memberships can be obtained with valid I.D. or passport and privileges include use of the Archive's collection of books and videotapes.

Feature films run Monday to Friday and cost NT$100 per film. Admission to the documentary video series is free and will be screened over five Friday nights beginning tonight.
