While she also has an older brother, Rahul, Priyanka is seen as having "star quality" on the hustings with fluent Hindi and a charisma that reminds many of her grandmother.
"She has what's called the emotional intelligence for politics," Congress spokesman Jaipal Reddy said before the recent state elections.
"I think she'll fully participate in the campaign for the federal parliament," Reddy said, adding a note of caution. "She has a baby to take care of and also maybe the family would like to keep its powder dry."
