But it has not always been easy for Kim, who was nearly in tears as she spoke of her brother, who described her as a wild daisy that no one cares about.
She says she did not have a birthday celebration until she turned 50.
"They [my family] hung a huge green pepper at the door and cooked a big pot of seaweed soup for me."
"I do not tell the same story [every time I give a speech at seminars], because every moment of my life is different," Kim says, "I changed my outfit three times today: on the plane, before the conference, and before I spoke to you. I want every moment to start anew. And there are always going to be different angles to look at in my life."
As Kim speaks, her sons and her companions shower her with admiration and respect, though they may have heard Kim's speeches and seminars many times already. Inspired by her, they learned martial arts from Kim and also how to change their outlooks on life, quitting drugs and alcohol.
"We each have power in us, what we do in our lives is our personal choice," says Kim. And if anyone still doubts it, one may ask Chi Hui-Jung, the CEO of Garden of Hope, how Kim helped her extract the "power within her body" and break piece a 2cm-thick piece of wood.
So, what keeps Kim going? "I think I want to teach till my last breath."
"Yes, it has always been the teaching," her son says.
