Taiwan's Public Television Service has long provided a diet of quality programming. In order to better serve the foreign community, it now has upgraded its Web site presence with detailed program information in English, along with a variety of other services that English speakers interested in Taiwan may find useful.
PTS was founded in 1998 and is Taiwan's only non-profit television station. It has been behind the broadcasting of many quality documentaries about Taiwan, and while some of the programming is not exactly geared to mass audiences, social issues such as educational, minority and Aboriginal issues are given an airing that they do not generally receive on commercial channels.
The revamping of the Web site started earlier this year, and now presents a much more user-friendly face to non-Chinese users. The Web site provides information for TV viewers, but another important aim in upgrading the site is to provide a platform for greater interchange with broadcasters worldwide. The PTS Web site is located at http://eng.pts.org.tw.
