Paul Oakenfold can't sing

By David Momphard  /  CONTRIBUTING REPORTER

He can't sing.

Bunkaa, 11 tracks of electro-pop compositions, is surprisingly not easy to dance to. The album's vocals are provided by a range of artists, including Perry Ferrell of Jane's Addiction, Ice Cube and even Hunter S. Thompson, who's never made anyone feel like dancing.

"I'd always wanted to do something that represented my own musical background," he's said of Bunkaa. "I grew up on pop music, I love guitar bands and I was very influenced and involved in hip-hop during the early days."

Tomorrow night's gig is part of Heineken's Thirst tour, which began in Ireland late last month and has since traveled to Singapore and Hong Kong. The worldwide tour is Heineken's attempt at selling beer to a crowd that favors drinking water. A DJ competition was held at each previous location and the winners -- DJ Anthony from Ireland, JP from Singapore and Yin from Hong Kong -- battled it out at a final in Hong Kong's HiTec last Saturday. Yin threw Pink Floyd into a dark house mix and the competition was over. All the finalists will be partying with Oakenfold in Taipei, where he'll be making the rounds on Friday night before Saturday's main event.

Catch him at The Wall at 10pm Friday for an autograph session. From there he'll head to Plush at 11pm to sign more autographs, and then to 2nd Floor for a "surprise."
