Hitting all the right notes at Huashan

By Gavin Phipps  /  STAFF REPORTER

Half a dozen of the nation's leading guitar-orientated indie bands will be performing at the Huashan Music House (華山音樂館) at 9pm tonight, when the venue plays host to a distortion box-driven evening which has been dubbed An Evening Affair for Rockers and Baseball Lovers (搖滾漢子與棒球情人的出軌之夜).

The evening's moniker might sound pretty feeble-witted, but the entertainment should certainly not be considered powerless in any way. Whether in a muddy field in Kenting or on a make-shift stage in a dingy basement in Taipei, all of the bands on the roster have proven themselves crowd pleasers and have hit their fair share of home runs in the past.

While the as-yet-unsigned, but always popular rookies 88 Guava Seeds (88顆芭樂籽), Dino, AM and Zayin are set to bat first, it will no doubt, however, be the major leaguers who will be stealing the show. With the guitar-driven sound of The Chairman (董事長), Back Quarter (四分衛) and Ardor (流氓阿德) hopefully leading the buzzsaw-loaded offense all the way to home base.

The noise begins at 9pm tonight at the Huashan Music House (華山音樂館), which is located at 1, Pate Rd., Sec. 1, Taipei (台北市八德路一段一號2樓). Tickets cost NT$300 and include a free drink.
