Free Cloud Gate Concert at CKS

Under the umbrella of the Cathay Life Arts Festival (國泰人壽藝術節) the major life insurance company will sponsor a free outdoor performance of the Cloud Gate Dance Theater's (雲門舞集) Songs of the Wanderer (流浪者之歌) in the plaza of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial this Saturday.

Cloud Gate is the undisputed leader of Taiwan's dance establishment, and one of the few local groups with an international reputation. With its arduous tour schedule, Cloud Gate performances in Taiwan are always much anticipated and tickets are often sold out well in advance. Outdoor performances such as the one on Saturday are an opportunity for the group to come into contact with a wider public.

With this performance, Songs of the Wanderer will become Cloud Gate's most performed work. This will be the 151st performance of a show that has received international acclaim. The work premiered in 1994.

Before the performance on Saturday night, Lin Huei-ming (林懷民), the founder and artistic director of Cloud Gate, will also be holding a book signing for the novel Cicarda, first published in 1969 and re-released in April of this year. This is the first time that the dancer has had the opportunity to promote the book personally.

The book signing will take place beginning at 6:30pm at the CKS Memorial Hall Plaza followed by the performance at 7:30pm. Seats will be provided for the elderly and disabled only.
