Due to the potential onslaught of two typhoons this weekend, the sailing festival originally scheduled to take place at Lungdung tomorrow and Sunday has been postponed by two weeks until the weekend of July 19, 20 and 21. The good news is that interested sailors will still have time to sign up for the races, provided they can find a boat.

Races will take place in nine classes of sailing vessels, including Hobycat 21s (4 person crews), an unlimited catamaran class (2 person crews), Lasers, two Optimist classes for kids (girls and boys) and four classes of windsurfers. Courses will be set using two to three buoys.

Meanwhile, out patrolling the coastline will be Taiwan's only two large sailboats, the 12.5m Motivation and the 12m Lulu (a J-Boat 120).

For all classes except the Hobycats, participants must provide their own vessels. A few Hobycats are available for rental, but the event organizers say it is likely that the entire supply of six such craft will be rented out well in advance of the festival.

Those interested in participating can contact the Fulung Sail Service System at (02) 2499-1375. Sailing will take place out of the harbor at Lungdung, located about 10km south of Keelung.
