Cup of coffee, counselor?

By Raymond Kuo  /  STAFF REPORTER

Coffee Lab is a self-styled testing ground for making new kinds of coffee,

as well as sampling varieties from around the world.

Arny Tsai first got the idea after he wrote the book Italy's Coffee Lab,

which discussed various ways to make gourmet coffee using household

appliances and ingredients available at the local grocery store.

"One reason I established Coffee Lab was to put the ideas in my book to

practice, to create a place to let people try coffee from many different

countries and experiment with new ways of making coffee," Tsai, a partner at

a law firm above the coffee shop, said. "I also wanted to give people an

opportunity to consult with lawyers but not have to spend a lot of money to

do so."

However, Coffee Lab's claim to fame is its weekly tango session. On

Saturdays from 8:30pm to 11pm, the tables are cleared and dancers come to

strut their stuff to salsa, molango, and, of course, tango music.

While lessons are not given at the coffee shop, the customers - several of

whom are highly accomplished dancers - are more than willing to give

newcomers a few pointers or set up private lessons.

It should be noted that it is easier for women to pick up the dance than for

men: an advantage of being the follower in couple dancing.

Coffee Lab is located at 2F, 125 Hsinsheng S. Rd, Sec. 1

(北市新生南路一段125號2樓), right next to the Jenai Rd. intersection.
