"Ten years ago, I made a vow to Matsu, which I've tried to fulfill by joining the pilgrimage. I never believed I could make it, but I did. It's all due to Matsu's blessing," said the wife, still holding her flag discolored from years of use. Apart from her successful pilgrimage, Matsu has blessed her daily life as well.

"After I went on my first pilgrimage, I became braver and more determined, thanks to Matsu, even though I used to be weak and timid," she said.

As the palanquin comes into sight, she hurries to her feet. "In the years to come, I will continue to go on the pilgrimage because that is what I vowed to Matsu."
