The vampire Lestat has spent the past few hundred years sleeping off a hangover from the last bad Anne Rice film when he's awakened by the catchy sound of rock `n' roll. He quickly takes over as vocalist of a New Orleans garage band in his bid to take over the world -- vampirism, lest we forget, is the natural predecessor to heroin-chic. A trove of jealous vampires want in on the action and decide Lestat must die. Our parasitic protagonist must decide between his lust for the mother of all vampires, Akasha, and his love for innocent Jesse, who has bad thoughts. A posthumous performance by pop singer Aaliyah is a bust and she comes across as the only one who thought it was a costume party. Pluth, her canine teeth gave her a lithp. None of the other performances are any more articulate.
