If there is a hangout with decent music, a scenic view and a mesmerizing
fire-spinning show every Friday, it's not really necessary to drink alcohol.
This is Orange.
The space is not big, situated right beside the Shihlin MRT station. Go to
the third-floor open-air area, where you can gaze at Yanmingshan or the
trains shuttling back and forth before the mountainscape.
The inside of the cafe is a secret garden filled with Bali-style
decorations, lending the place an ethnic atmosphere. It's not difficult to
guess that Orange is run by two sisters who love to travel.
Joyce Hsieh(謝佩君) loves music and used to hang out at the old Roxy's, but
she's allergic to alcohol and found that she was sacrificing her health just
to hear her favorite music. "I also like to hang out at good cafes, but
most of them have bad or boring music."
So to combine the two and eliminate the shortcomings she invented Orange,
where nobody asks to hear Bon Jovi.
Her sister Paula is in charge of another of the cafe's attractions. She is a
fire dancer who picked up her spinning skills when combing the beaches in
Thailand. Bringing the scene back to Taipei, she has since been seen
spinning at rave parties on Fulung Beach. Make sure you come to Orange on
Friday nights. DJ Stu spins chill-out electronica while Paula spins fire,
giving patrons a dazzling show with the help of four of her students.
If you really need alcohol after trying Orange's Caramel Milk Tea (NT$130)
or brand-name coffees, there are a few Belgian Beers on offer.
