Carrying on Russian's rich tradition in the performing arts are ballet dancer and choreographer Sergei Bobrov, and Sergey Feruljov, music director and conductor of the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, who will be bringing the classic Swan Lake (天鵝湖) and Cinderella (仙履奇緣) to Taiwan starting this weekend for a brief national tour.
Bobrov, who was previously the premier danseur in the Bolshoi Ballet under the famed choreographer Yury Grigorovich, is currently the artistic director of the Belarus Ballet, where he oversees productions of a repertoire of classics, including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker.
He last visited Taiwan in March, dancing in a full-length production of Swan Lake, which blended the piece's original choreography with new and innovative elements introduced by Bobrov himself. This time he returns with new choreography for the classic Prokofiev piece Cinderella.
Bobrov will be joining hands with Feruljov, who will head the orchestra. Feruljov is known for his superb musicality and unique interpretations that successfully cross various musical forms like chamber music, concerto, orchestra, opera , ballet and Russian folk music.
The pair will stage Tschaikovsky's Swan Lake in Taichung tonight, followed by shows in kaohsiung on Sunday and in Taipei next weekend. Cinderella will be performed in Kaohsiung on Monday and in Taipei next Wednesday through Friday.
