Art visits local schools around Taiwan

To promote the arts among children throughout Taiwan, the Council for Cultural Affairs (文建會), with the assistance of the Taiwan Arts International Association (TAIA, 台北藝術推廣協會), will initiate a four-month cultural event titled Walking with Art (跟著藝術走) on Sept. 11.

Sixteen performance groups, encompassing music, traditional theater, dance and drama will perform at 100 schools around the island. One month will be devoted to each category, with January devoted to a series of seminars. While aimed mostly at schoolchildren, many performances will also be open to the public.

Much of Taiwan's cultural calendar focuses on Taipei and Kaohsiung, and caters the adult population. To get children in more remote locations interested in the arts, a wide variety of activities, a process touted as sowing the seeds for Taiwan's future generation of artists.

Groups taking part are the China Found Music Workshop (采風樂坊), the King Brass Quinter (國王銅管五重奏團), Labor Exchange (交工樂隊), the Kaohsiung Philharmonic Orchestra (高雄市交響樂團), the Han Tang Yuefy Ensemble (漢唐樂府), the Kaohsiung City Ballet (高雄城市芭蕾舞團), Formosa Aboriginal Song and Dance Troupe (原舞者), The Taipei Folk Dance Theater (台北民族舞團), Puppet and its Double Puppet Theater (無獨有偶工作室劇團), Green Ray Theater (綠光劇團), Taitung Drama Theater (台東劇團) and Spring Wind Theater (南風劇團).
