While some clubs boast hot DJ's or the latest bands, Vacuum Space (VS, 無憂空間)
manager Alex Cho says his club's hottest attraction is its bartender. In the
true spirit of the movie Cocktail, VS found a bartender able to juggle
liquor bottles and palpitate girls' hearts at the same time. Hsiao San (小三)
splits time between modeling and pouring drinks at VS.
The bar is proud of its alcohol. The menu lists just about every mixed drink
known and includes fine wines, champagnes and cigars to boot. And if that
doesn't tickle your fancy, there is a free jar of Dum Dum suckers right by
the entrance. Prices on mixed drinks vary, but the cost of beer, NT$200 per
bottle, should provide ample warning as to the price range.
To find VS, pay close attention to the address. Situated in a quiet section
of Fuhsing South Road just across from the Technology Building MRT Station,
the tiny sign pointing to the bar's stairway is easy to miss, and that would
be a shame. Inside, is a club aspiring to draw the dancing masses to enjoy
R&B and Hip Hop played by professional DJs through the night.
For those seeking a quiet drink with friends, VS also has another room -- with another DJ -- where softer, "mood" music is played and guests get to
lounge on sofas and eat finger foods. This room can be pricey, however, as
it caters to groups willing to pay a minimum of between NT$4,000 to
NT$10,000 -- all good toward food and drinks -- depending on the size of the
group.
Party nights at VS are on Friday and Saturday, with a buy-two-get-one-free special on bottled beer. Wednesdays and Thursdays
are Ladies' nights and every Sunday and Tuesday are Jazz nights, with a
special wine promotion. VS is closed on Mondays. The general entrance fee is NT$500 on Friday and Saturday, NT$300 on other days. Entrance is free every night before 11pm.
VS is located at B1, 208 Fuhsing S. Rd., Sec. 2, (復興南路二段208號B1), tel: (02)
2700-6535. VS has a Web site at http://www.vacuumspace.com.tw
