Rated PG-13, directed by Tim Burton, with: Mark Wahlberg (Capt. Leo Davidson), Tim Roth (Thade), Helena Bonham Carter (Ari), Michael Clarke Duncan (Attar), Paul Giamatti (Limbo), running time: 125 minutes.
Tim Burton has created a new version of the 1968 original Planet of the Apes, except the apes this time are more agile and stronger. Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg), a US astronaut, finds his pod swallowed into a nebula and then crashes into a dense and strange jungle, where he witnesses hundreds of ferocious gorillas hunting a helpless human. This is the Planet of the Apes, and the gorillas are clearly in control. Leo finds himself trapped in the slave system under General Thade (Tim Roth), a powerful and evil gorilla leader. As Leo tries to escape, with the help of a turn-coat ape Ari (Helena Bonham Carter), a group of human slaves joins him and gears up for battle.
