Score was established by Alison Pan as a pool hall hangout for the Budweiser Kings softball team. It’s a nice place to meet people, watch sports on TV and take in a meal with good cold beer.
Score looks set to be around for a while, because it has all the ingredients of a successful bar. It has the location –near the Tunhua and Jenai Road roundabout –and Pan has the background, having been trained at the Far Eastern Plaza and his motto on cocktail orders is,. “I can do it all, just ask.” Try his wargarita (NT$190), which is like a margarita, but with blue curucao, in a salt rimmed and frosted glass. Less exciting, but of good value is a liter of Carlsberg at NT$250.
The food on offer is more than acceptable. The seafood spaghetti with tomato sauce (NT$250) overflowed with giant mussels, large prawns and calamari. Appetizers include buffalo wings (NT$170) and nachos with salsa (NT$120). The Caesar salad (NT$190), with or without chicken, is highly recommended.
Score has a chalet-feel about it, from the shuttered Windows to the wooden panelling. Clean and with a pool table that is flat and true, Score has a solid selection of rock tunes on its jukebox. There will be a projector screen for live sports events like the upcoming NBA final and Taiwan Golf Open.
Friendly and relaxed, Score is sure to become a regular drop-in place for active and armchair sports fans and anyone else hankering for good food and people.
The launch party for Score is Saturday, June 3.
Score is located at 1F, 67 Tung-Feng St., Taipei. (台北市東豐街67號1樓), Tel.: (02)2706-2162.
