The Shin-yeh Taiwanese Restaurant is part of a chain that has been running since 1966 and has gained particular favor among tourists who come to this restaurant in droves. Main chef Chen Wei-nan (陳渭南) offers classic Taiwanese dishes like pan-friend oysters, cuttlefish balls, lake fish and baby abalone, the latter served either boiled, steamed, or stir-fried.
Once you have tasted these dishes, then you can say you have tried Taiwanese food. Two of the perennial favorites include pan-fried pig's liver (煎豬肝), loved for its tender meat and soft, sweet flavor, and sliced fish in sweet and sour sauce (糖醋魚片). There is a raw fish bar with the fish of the day that's not featured on the menu. The restaurant also serves a wide range of Chinese cuisine.
There is expensive shark's fin soup and regular dishes like kung pao chicken (宮保雞丁), and beef with green pepper (青椒牛肉), as well as luncheon favorites like friend noodles and rice with an assortment of vegetables and meat. The restaurant also offers six separate dining rooms for up to 12 people if you need privacy. The chain has six outlets in Taipei and Taoyuan.
