'Tiger' wins Oscar glory

Failure to win the best picture and best director awards did not dampen the mood for Ang Lee and his Hong Kong and Chinese collaborators

"I am very proud to take the award. This result is better than I expected," Yip said. "In an industry such as Hollywood's with so many strong design and technical professionals, in the end it gave me and Peter [Pau] the awards. It shows that this time the Hollywood is not biased."

Rounding out the achievement for Crouching Tiger was the Best Original Score award accepted by Tan Dun (譚盾). China-born Tan, who has worked on such films as Fallen and In the Name of the Emperor and is currently collaborating with Yo-yo Ma (馬友友) on the cellist's acclaimed Silk Road Project, said Crouching Tiger combined the best of Asian and Western filmmaking abilities.

"As a classical music composer I'm thrilled to be here. Crouching Tiger blends East and West, romance and action, high and low cultures."
