A tribute to spontaneous travel

Yan, a frequent traveler, downplays sightseeing tours, shopping trips and other well-planned journeys that lessen the experience derived from spontaneity.

The materials of Yan's focus, bamboo and cloth, which are what he called soft structures, are used to produce the effects of being light, efficient, frivolous and flowing. Growing up in a clothing business family, Yan said his memory of space is connected to this material that always seems to present a romantic concept for him. Brush writing on white cloth, however, is not always pleasing as it is often used in folk occasions to calm down troubled souls. Afterward, the cloth is burned. Yan's bamboo structures are hung with several black on white cloth pieces to symbolize soothing of the wandering souls of travelers.
