Norman Yin (殷乃平), a professor of monetary studies at National Chengchi University said that faster integration into the international financial system is of the most important tasks facing Taiwan.

In terms of whether the relationship between China and Taiwan would be a hindrance, Yin said, "cross-strait trade is a separate issue."

Yin was also confident that the financial difficulties facing the Taiwanese government would be solved by more effective efforts at privatizing state-owned enterprises.
