DNA proposal raises a lot of questions
The New York Civil Liberties Union said that privacy issues aside, the mayor's proposal would require turning the collection and analysis of DNA samples into a mass-production operation. By Al Baker Simple cotton swabs would be rubbed inside the mouths of suspects. The collected human cheek cells would then be mined for DNA strands. And those samples would be put together as potential evidence in prosecutions.

Brazil's famous samba schools hit by drug trafficking revelations

Each year the school attracts thousands of followers, including tourists and celebrities, to its annual carnival processions. This year, however, its preparations have been disrupted by a police investigation into its relationship with Brazilian drug traffickers, who control the neighborhood where Mangueira is located.

LETTERS: Media can't think for you
As an ABT (American-born Taiwanese) who lives in the US, I am not affected by the media in Taiwan on a regular basis. But in my visits here in Taiwan and watching the news on TV, I have noticed the media in Taiwan is pretty biased in its reporting. I also believe there is a lot of ignorance and narrow mindedness in the people of Taiwan, with many relying on only the media to get information about the different parties.

LETTERS: Identity issue is dead
Based on the results of Taiwan's recent legislative elections, it is clear the DPP must make significant changes for the presidential election in March, as well as for 2012, if it wishes to rectify its defeat.
