A blue rat ballad
Dear Johnny,
As I was listening to Al Stewart's classic song The Year of the Cat last night, I was inspired to put together some lyrics for Frank Hsieh's (謝長廷) campaign song.
Taipeimarc
The Year of the Rat
On a morning from an Ang Lee movie
In a country where they turn back freedom
The blues go strolling to China with sellout agreements
Contemplating a power grab.
A political party bearing a sun goes to bed with the CCP
Like fudgepackers in a tent
Don't bother asking for explanations
They'll tell you they love Taiwan
In the Year of the Rat.
Johnny replies: Dude, I think you might need to work on the rhymes. Also, I'm not sure that the sexual imagery is quite in keeping with the puritanism of the people involved. And I wonder if my gay readers would be offended at being associated with acts of treason.
