Letter: Status quo altered

It would be interesting to see an article featuring an interview of US government officials by the Taipei Times.
The main thrust of the interview would be to ask the US government about its hypocritical approach to the "status quo."
Based on recent reporting, it would seem that the US considers changing the name of the nation's postal service as altering the status quo, prompting US authorities to issue a formal response.
Strikingly, however, when China increases its military spending by 17.8 percent (a budget established at US$44.9 billion this year), Washington doesn't say a thing about how this alters the status quo.
Why hasn't the US responded to this important development?
At modicum, the US should also say that this spending increase is "unhelpful."
