Letter: Just come clean!

By Michael Falick

Some people have suggested that President Chen's immediate resignation might be best for the country and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Meanwhile everyone else is running for cover -- former president Lee Teng-hui (李登輝) and the Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) no longer support the recall motion, while Vice President Annette Lu (呂秀蓮) said she knew nothing about the "state affairs fund."

I wonder if Lee and Chen would both "confess" to the fact that the "state affairs fund" is inappropriate for a democracy even when administered as originally intended.

Chen could "honorably" resign on that basis; he and his wife could still fight for their personal integrity. Lu could discontinue the "state affairs fund" without having to compromise any legitimate state secrets.

And thereafter, the pan-blue camp would have 16 months to find a new way to continue their quest to destroy Taiwan and its democracy.
