Letter: Wishful printing errors

By Thomas Fergo

There must have been a printing error in Richard Vuylsteke's otherwise very illuminating comments (Letters, Aug. 30, page 8); specifically, the last two paragraphs that ran: "This makes great economic sense for Taiwan, as these links to China are in fact links to the world. Without the links, Taiwan is keeping itself out of global supply chains that would otherwise attract investment and, no less important, create more jobs for Taiwanese."

Surely the good Vuylsteke must have written: "This makes great economic sense for US businesses, as these links to China are in fact links to the world. Without the links, US businesses are keeping themselves out of global supply chains that would otherwise attract investment and, no less important, create more jobs for US businesses."

Left standing as printed, one could get the impression that an employee in a foreign business interest organization was trying to tell the freely elected government of Taiwan how to manage its own foreign policy with regard to China. Absurd!
