    Letter: On negativism

Who's killing Taiwan and the Taiwanese?

Miserable, cruel, negative news that gets reported everyday. The media seeks to constantly remind us that Taiwan is in an extremely difficult situation be it on the subject of economics, ethnicity, the military, internal politics, international relations and other phenomena. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that a hundred to one of the stories we learn about daily are negative as opposed to positive ones.

Many the high rates of crime, suicide and unemployment on the government. Are these charges reasonable?

In my opinion, it is the weak attitude of the Taiwanese people. Taiwanese are afraid to assume responsibility and instead pass on the burden to society. It has become a popular method of escape for people who do not know how to help themselves.

We cannot deny that politicians are good at covering all issues with ambiguous and questionable comments. Vulgar, violent television shows do not contribute to the public's ability to judge and criticize these incidents.

Furthermore, Taiwanese lack a sense of identification, as individuals and as a nation. We require a solid team with the wisdom and insight to guide and help the country and the people out of this plight.

Think and ponder on all these.
