Letters: Confederation is the answer

By Bill Parkhurst

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) will very likely win the next presidential election. He is quite open about his views of consolidation with China.

Half of the people will not agree with this approach. And half of the populace do not seem to really understand the issues at hand.

The most intelligent move would be for Taiwan, Mongolia, Tibet and China's far western provinces to engage Beijing in a pact for confederation. It could have been more effective if Hong Kong wasn't given away as a result of stupid UK moves.

Taiwan is not the "only" problem for China. It is merely the most important one in the Chinese Communist Party's march toward ultimate power.

Chinese have rights as individuals, despite their numbers.
