Strife is bad

I can't agree with your editorial on Wednesday ("Legislature must put aside feuding," page 8). It was the opening day of the legislative session on Tuesday. To our depression, it ended with filibusters and chaos. Political confrontation seems to be normal in our Legislative Yuan. This political impasse has resulted in a policy of boycotts, including significant livelihood bills and the special arms procurement budget.
Indeed, the Legislative Yuan should leave aside political struggles. The arms purchase isn't only about a single political party, but about the security of the Taiwanese people. What is precious to a true democracy is to debate policy properly, through open means. Political wrangling is, in fact, a waste of taxpayer's money.
