An insult to civilization

Having been in Taiwan since Feb. 27, I now believe that I have seen it all. The following is my brief summary:
In regard to Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Lien Chan (³s¾Ô) and PFP Chairman James Soong (³s§º) and their followers, I feel very sad to have witnessed the human mentality of deceit. It is far more horrible than what I have heard and read in the past about the "Ugly Chinese." For the first time I have realized how devious man can be when his long-held, unwarranted superiority complex is threatened and replaced by his own fearfulness.
Nonetheless, it is a psychological phenomenon beyond my comprehension.
Also for the first time, I have directly observed how this type of tyranny, when in power, can fabricate stories to wrongly accuse, jail or execute political opponents as has occurred in the past -- as occurred with the 228 Incident, for example. Sadly, all these falsehoods are being perpetuated using "restoring democracy, seeking justice and finding the truth" as the lofty ideals behind their arguments.
What an insult to civilized society!
A consolation is that Lien-Soong's irrational mindset demonstrates vividly what the KMT inflicted upon the Taiwanese people during the 40-year Martial Law era, 1947 to 1987.
Chen has been right to be patient, exhibiting admirable self-restraint in not allowing himself to be tricked into confronting these two political rogues and their politically unsophisticated followers.
He has proven himself to be the legitimate president of Taiwan, properly re-elected on March 20. Obviously, any other alternative would have been a disaster.
