Too complete a victory for Tony Blair

He has been victorious and the BBC has been vanquished, yet the British prime minister is all too aware that there is still a war to win

As Campbell confided to his diary, the gargantuan struggle with the BBC was pursued because he wanted "a win, not a messy draw." From the Law Lord, he and the prime minister got a win so comprehensive that it astonished even them. So absolute was the "totality" of their victory that it does not seem to have served them as well as they may have initially thought.

The verdict from the public jury looks much more like a messy draw.
