Time for a reality check in the US

By Nat Bellocchi 白樂崎

In the US' own interest, two other issues should be addressed: a more robust leadership for Taiwan's participation in the international community and common sense expanding of communications and contacts between officials of both sides. These issues are not a part of any commitment the US has made to the PRC. They are policies the US has imposed on itself over the years primarily to accommodate PRC sensitivities. Other adjustments can be made as needed. Any time is a good time to adjust to reality, as long as it enhances The US' interests and supports the expansion of democracy, while continuing efforts to strengthen its relations with the PRC.
