The government's intention to use its authority to intervene forcibly amounts to industrial democracy -- within the framework of Taiwan's industrial economy. Admittedly, while it can help sustain the ruling party's advocacy of certain social movements, the inevitable effect of such intervention goes far beyond the nation's labor market. Indeed, the impact will be felt throughout the entire economic system, both in terms of economic behavior and efficacy.
The action will, moreover, have a significant transitional impact, exacerbating the already extremely confused state of domestic political and economic affairs.
To put it more directly: Will the government please reconsider its actions -- carefully?
