Editorial: G8 asleep at the wheel on Taiwan

Taiwan is right in the middle of the delicate and shifting milieu of a new East Asia. Our primary national interest lies in making good use of opportunities and preventing disaster, which in turn depends on whether we are capable of sound judgment and astute response. We support the G8 communi-que's advocacy of "preventive culture" and of peaceful solution to disputes.
