Likewise, if there is any chance of a breakthrough in terms of re-opening cross-strait talks, Chen should again invite the Chinese leader to visit Taiwan and express his sincerity to visit China.
Third Stage
(May 8 - May 20)
In the final runup to the inauguration, Chen's primary task will be the preparation of his inaugural address. The speech should include a framework of the new government, the prioritization of domestic programs, a feasible plan for the normalization of cross-strait relations and the improvement of Taiwan's international stance and a vision for Taiwan's future.
If all of these steps can be followed, we can expect that Taiwan's first ever transition of power can proceed smoothly and gracefully. At this critical moment in history, we should put aside for the moment our partisan differences and put the negative atmosphere of the campaign behind us, and work for the greater national interest.
