In a world where it seems that the lone individual has less and less power to change things for the better, human rights activist groups provide an excellent opportunity to counter that thinking. Individuals do matter, individuals do make a difference, and individuals can stop human rights abuse.
As we celebrate International Human Rights day this year we, as individuals should make a kind of "New Year's resolution," a resolution to take an active part in the work of supporting and expanding human rights both here in Taiwan and around the world. It is better, as the Book of Psalms says; to light one candle than to curse the darkness.
