Sapporo Breweries Ltd, Japan's third-biggest beermaker, will use local companies to produce more than two-thirds of its North American and half its Taiwan shipments to reduce risk from currency fluctuations.
Sapporo Breweries will in December farm out 70 percent of its beer production for the North American market to Sleeman Brewing & Malting Co, a subsidiary of Canada's Sleeman Breweries Ltd, company spokeswoman Maki Morimoto said.
It will use state-run Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Co (台灣菸酒公司) to produce 50 percent of the beer it sells in the Taiwanese market from January next year, Morimoto said, adding the shift to local production will help Sapporo Breweries get its products to market more quickly.
