The New Taiwan dollar yesterday surged against the greenback on the Taipei foreign exchange market after US Federal Reserve policymakers left interest rates unchanged at 40-year lows and warned of weak conditions in the world's biggest economy. The currency rose NT$0.110 against the greenback to close at NT$33.735. Turnover was US$418 million, up from the previous day's US$355 million. It opened at the day's high of NT$33.845 and hit a low of NT$33.680 during the session.
