Nokia meeting with suppliers

STAFF WRITER, WITH AGENCIES

Nokia Oyj will probably buy mobile phones for the first time from Taiwanese suppliers because the world's largest maker of the handsets needs to cut production costs, a Chinese-language newspaper reported yesterday. More than 10 Nokia officials from the company's recently established global outsourcing unit will meet six Taiwanese mobile-phone makers including BenQ Corp (明基), Compal Electronics Inc (仁寶) and Quanta Computer Inc (廣達) by the end of the month, the report said. Nokia, which hasn't provided any product specifications to the companies, will probably place its first orders with the local suppliers by early next year.
