UMC July ales rise 74%

United Microelectronics Corp (UMC, Áp¹q), the world's second-largest supplier of made-to-order chips, said July sales rose 74 percent from a year earlier to NT$6.72 billion. Sales were NT$6.71 billion in June. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (¥x¿n¹q), UMC's larger rival, said yesterday that July sales that fell 13 percent from the previous month. United Microelectronics shares rose 3.6 percent to NT$29, compared with a 3.2 percent gain in the TAIEX.
