Siliconware Precision Industries Co (矽品精密) posted a greater than-expected profit in the second quarter after sales surged by more than half and gross margins more than tripled. The chip assembler turned to net income of NT$185 million (US$5.4 million) from a net loss of NT$215 million a year ago. Non-operating income rose 41 percent to NT$230 million, and non-operating expenses fell 49 percent, the company said. Gross margins more than tripled to NT$545 million, the company said.
