EVA to lease cargo jet

STAFF WRITER, WITH AGENCIES

EVA Airways Corp (長榮航空), the nation's second-largest airline, signed a contract with Atlas Co to lease one freighter to expand its cargo services. "The freighter will be used to add one more [weekly] cargo flight on the Taiwan-Hong Kong route," EVA said in a statement. Under a new traffic arrangement signed in June between Hong Kong and Taiwan, EVA can provide up to 600 tonnes of cargo capacity between Hong Kong and Taipei a week. The airline will fly seven cargo flights a week between the two destinations, when the new freighter starts operating on Sept. 1. EVA will also operate the new freighter, a Boeing Co 747-400, on mid- to long-haul routes including Singapore, Brussels, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta.
