The Taiwan Trade Center in Toronto opened Tuesday with Sheu Ke-sheng (許柯生), vice chairman of the China External Trade Development Council (外貿協會), forecasting that trade might reach US$3.0 billion by the end of this year. Taiwan is Canada's ninth-largest trading partner and its fourth-largest export market. Bilateral trade reached US$3.48 billion last year, with Taiwan enjoying a surplus of US$2.2 billion, Sheu said. In the first five months of this year, trade between the two countries reached US$1.35 billion, 12 percent down compared to the same period last year, he added.
