Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密) has submitted an application to the administration of Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park (新竹科學園區) for an eight-hectare site to build a TFT-LCD (thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display) factory, a spokesman for the company said yesterday.
He said that Hon Hai plans to invest NT$20 billion to establish the fifth-generation TFT-LCD manufacturing facilities in Hsinchu, and it is also possible that the company will set up a research and development center there.
In early June, Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou (郭台銘) announced in Taipei that the company plans to establish a NT$30 billion research center and satellite factory on 20 hectares of land in Tucheng, Taipei County. A company spokesman said that Hon Hai has other investment plans for the land in Tucheng.
