The Ministry of Finance said yesterday that the government has decided to impose anti-dumping tariffs on cement products imported from South Korea and the Philippines effective Friday, the ministry said in a statement. The tariffs, ranging between 42 percent and 126.8 percent, will be levied against Ssangyong Cement Industrial Co, Alsons Cement Corp and other South Korean and Philippine cement makers, the statement said. The government started the anti-dumping investigation about a year ago, after several domestic cement makers led by Asia Cement Corp (¨Èªd) claimed cheaper imports were causing them to lose money. Until now, Taiwan hadn't imposed any tariffs on cement imports. South Korean and Philippine companies account for about 30 percent of Taiwan's portland cement imports by value, according to the ministry's statistics.
