Taisalt builds salt spa

STAFF WRITER, WITH AGENCIES

The Taiwan Salt Industrial Corp (Taisalt, 台鹽) has built a heavily salted spa at the Chiku salt works, which has been turned into a recreational park that will open Saturday. A spokesman said yesterday that the recreational park is part of the company's business diversification efforts. The salt concentration in the spa's water is between 12 percent and 14 percent, making it very buoyant, and it is expected to become a tourist attraction, he added. The Chiku salt works in Tainan county, southern Taiwan, was the company's last salt field when it announced in late April that it was ending its solar salt-manufacturing business. In addition to the spa, the recreational park will feature a museum that will showcase the 338-year history of salt production in Taiwan.
