A Taiwanese trade group headed by Pan Wen-yen (潘文炎), president of the state-run Chinese Petroleum Corp (中油), and Chung Su-sheng (鍾甦生), president of the Export-Import Bank of the Republic of China (中國輸出入銀行) arrived in Moscow Wednesday.
The trip to Moscow, the last leg of the trade group's 25-day fact-finding tour of Russia, was wrapped up with a visit to the Russian Ministry of Economic Affairs and other governmental agencies on Thursday.
Alexander Bimkin, deputy representative for economic affairs at the Moscow-Taipei Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission, traveled from Taipei to Moscow especially to play host to the business executives from Taiwan.
Bimkin said he expects the inspection tour of the Taiwan executives group will be conducive to accelerating business ties between the two countries.
Charles King (金樹基), Taiwan's representative in Russia, said the Taiwanese business executives have traveled more than 10,000km over the past 20 days, touring from the Russian Fareast, Sakhalin, the Kurils, Vladivostok and Siberia, to Kazakhstan, St. Petersburg and finally Moscow, to gain a first-hand understanding of the fabric of Russian society and to check out whether there are any opportunities for Taiwan businesses to establish a presence.
