The Civil Aeronautics Administra-tion said yesterday that it is considering the idea of granting full-scale subsidies to airlines serving loss-making routes to four offshore islands.
The CAA said it is assessing the possibility of increasing its subsidies from NT$50 million to NT$120 million (US$3.6 million) per year for UNI Airways (立榮航空) and Mandarin Airlines (華信航空) in an effort to secure continued air traffic for people living on Orchid Island, Green Island, Chimei Island and Wangan Island.
UNI Airways submitted an application last week to withdraw from the routes between Taiwan and Orchid Island and Green Island, but did not include a timetable for the withdrawal.
